I'm in my organization's IT dept. I'm installing Alteryx license server on Windows Server 2022 for the first time. It says in the Alteryx license server 2024.2 release notes that it now supports Java and OpenJDK version 17.
Thanks for reaching out to us. I checked the release notes and other documentation, and as of Alteryx License Server 2024.2, the system officially supports only Java SE Runtime Environment 17, including both Oracle JDK and OpenJDK distributions. As far as I know, there is no official support for newer Java versions such as 21 or 24. Using Java versions beyond 17 may lead to unexpected behavior or compatibility issues, and is not recommended unless explicitly supported in future releases.
As for the Microsoft Build of OpenJDK, there is no explicitly stated support for this build. Therefore, using the officially supported Oracle JDK or OpenJDK distributions for the License Server is advisable to ensure full compatibility and support. If you still plan to use the Microsoft Build, conduct the testing cautiously.
Please reach out to the community if you have any other questions.
Take care.
@Troubleshooter5000 - No... check out FlexNet for more information -> https://docs.revenera.com/
@Dean4U --- any idea why the license server can't run on Linux? --- that seems like a low lift and there isn't anything (AFAIK) Alteryx/Windows specific about the license server itself.
Hi @apathetichell,
Thank you so much for confirming!
Regarding supporting the Alteryx License Server on Linux - While there might be plenty of better reasons, my guess is that the demand for it is not high enough yet to make it a priority. However, you can put in a request for it through My.Alteryx.com. You can log in and switch to the Case Management tab to submit a case.
Thanks again for being a valued member of our community. Good luck with your quixotic quest! 🙂
Take care.
