Alteryx Designer Cloud Independent Installer Issues (Windows 11)

Hello all! I am new to this platform and am trying to get Designer Cloud certified.

I got my independent license and got my license key and verified everything.

When I downloaded both the Non-Admin and Admin versions, I run as an administrator, the UAC prompt comes up and when I click "OK" the installer never goes and nothing happens.

Here are all the steps I have tried. Any help is greatly appreciated:

  • Running as Administrator
    • Action: Right-click on the installer and select Run as Administrator to ensure the installer has the necessary permissions to modify system settings.
    • Result: No change.
  • Checking Digital Signatures
    • Action: Opened the Properties window for the installer, went to the Digital Signatures tab, and checked for any issues with the signature.
    • Result: The installer’s digital signature was valid, so this wasn’t the source of the problem.
  • Adjusting User Account Control (UAC) Settings
    • Action: Lowered UAC settings to Never notify to ensure it wasn't blocking the installation process.
    • Result: No change.
  • Temporarily Disabling Antivirus Software
    • Action: Disabled antivirus software, as it might be blocking the installer from running.
    • Result: No change.
  • Renaming and Correcting the File Type
    • Action: Ensured the installer was an .exe file and not mistakenly a .zip or compressed file.
    • Result: The installer was valid, but no installation occurred.
  • Redownloading the Installer
    • Action: Recommended re-downloading the installer to ensure it wasn’t corrupted or incomplete.
    • Result: No change (installer still didn’t run).
  • Running the Installer in Compatibility Mode
    • Action: Tried running the installer in Compatibility Mode for Windows 10 (or Windows 7) to address potential compatibility issues with Windows 11.
    • Result: No change.
  • Restarting the Windows Installer Service
    • Action: Checked and restarted the Windows Installer service from Services.msc to ensure it was running properly.
    • Result: No change.
  • Running the Installer via Command Line
    • Action: Attempted to run the installer through the Command Prompt (with administrator privileges) to check for any error messages that might provide more insight.
    • Result: No change.

I think there's some confusion here. Designer Cloud and installation are not terms that go together. The only time installation should be an issue is if someone is using an early version of Trifacta and installing in their own infra. Definitely not for certification.

If this is in reference to the desktop designer, then that differs, but the solution will require looking at environment, as it's not like different people get different installers from the links. You've indicated that you're licensed, and so whoever provided the license should be able to assist. If it's SparkEd, then replies may be a couple of days, but that's the reality of a for-profit organisation giving so much access in the non-profit space, they can't dedicate full resource everywhere in the world for it.

An installer dropping out part way definitely indicates that something on the machine is stopping it. Antivirus etc are the main culprits, but there are definitely others that can do this as well. Event viewer should give the logs of what happened, and then need to figure out what needs to be disabled to allow it to run.

Once I got my license (SparkED) in the instructions it told me to download Alteryx Designer. Apologies for using the term cloud, I thought that was what I was downloading.

I have turned off my security and the vast majority of everything else I could think of and nothing will get this to install.

The main reason I am pushing so hard for it to install is I am being told I need it to go through my Designer Core certification.

It is true that you would not be able to do the certification without installing the software first. Designer Cloud is a portal that you log on to through a browser, it's different and doesn't have quite the flexibility of designer desktop.

In order for someone here to possibly provide some advice, would need the Event Viewer logs and more info on the environment, but even then it's just a chance if someone sees something that will help. This will most likely get more traction through SparkEd or maybe support.
