Hi all. We are currently setting up our Connect data catalog, and I am curious how other users flag PII (personally identifiable information) in their metadata. We had considered using tags, but I am a bit concerned whether other tags will get in the way of being clear about what data is and isn't PII. Interested in how others handle this, if at all??
Thanks
Jo
Hi @JoTP ,
currently only the tags would do the job, I'm afraid.
In the next release, i.e. beginning of May, we are about to release new feature, which gives you options to assign custom fields to asset types of your choice. In such case, you will be able to create your own field, e.g. "Sensitivity" with values "PII, Sensitive, Public" and assign these to assets.
Thank Vojta
This will be better for us in separating the PII categorisation off. Will security restrictions be available for the custom fields too?
Hi @JoTP ,
not in the first version, but we definitely plan to continue of enhancing this feature, so adding restrictions of who can modify such fields should come next.
Hi
Is there an update on the timing of this release and the content of it? We had a demo session today from an Alteryx staff member who couldn't advise.
Thanks
jo
Hi @JoTP ,
this feature will be included in the 2019.2 version.
The release date for this version is currently planned for beginning of June.
However, if you are keen to test the feature, I would more than happy to provide you with a beta package - that is for testing purposes and can be released practically anytime.
Hi @VojtechT
Yes we'd be keen to do this as part of our adoption trial as tagging through the normal mechanism is a limitation at this point. What are the next steps?
Cheers
Jo
We will release this feature as part of Beta 2 of 2019.2 next week.
meanwhile you can register for the Beta program at beta.alteryx.com (you must be approved first in order to be able to download the beta installer).
Hi @JoTP
With the latest release you can utilize custom fields to set up dedicated tracking for PII data
cheers
@JoTP - I'm curious why tags won't work for you. What do you mean by "a bit concerned whether other tags will get in the way of being clear about what data is and isn't PII". Can you share an example?
