The Alteryx Product Certification Program is a great way to motivate the learners.

 

On top of that, I appreciate very much about the Micro Credentials which were recently introduced.

The learning path to Core Certificate has become more accessible for beginners.

 

As a step further, I would like to have the 4 Micro Credential Exams in Japanese language.

Core and Advanced Certificate Exams are available in Japanese, which greatly contributes to lower language barrier.

I guess the 4 exams are subsets of Core Certificate Exam, and if so,

the questions in Japanese Core Exam might be copied for the 4 exams without much effort.

 

If this becomes available, it would be much easier for me to encourage my colleagues in Japan to start learning Alteryx.

This idea isn't my own. If I remembered correctly, it was mentioned by @MarqueeCrew. I hope he will not have anything against me posting it here 😀

In short, we don't have functionality in the community that would allow us to follow specific users. I think we have a couple of stars in the community that share quality content, and it would be amazing to receive a notification if they started a new topic or post a new article.

To my best knowledge, functionality like this should be relatively easy to implement, and it would allow us to learn best practices from those stars that we are following.

Looking at the Gallery - there are dozens of great macros and tools and connectors which have been built and provided by Alteryx.

 

However for large enterprise clients - it becomes difficult to distribute these tools because every tool has to be downloaded; repacked for the internal environment; and then distributed, and so as a result these are not able to be used or appreciated by large clients because of this overhead of packaging.

 

There's an easy way round this - which is to do a daily package (automated) of the gallery assets provided by Alteryx, and make this available for download - that way, enterprise admins can then download the latest version of the Alteryx connectors; predicitve tools etc.        

 

Is this something we could look into?

It seems that there are 4 ways that the community can help to increase traffic to the BETA program, which is a key priority for the dev team:

 

a) Add a beta section to the community; at the top level of navigation - preferably with some kind of a highlight so that people's eyes are drawn to it when there is new content

b) Reward people for participating in the BETA; adding suggestions; and logging defects in the BETA - with badges and highlights in the community news

c) Advertise the beta.   We can tell people about it with splashes on the front page; notes in the community news etc

d) Outreach to members of the community who are posting issues etc.

 

This would be a way to make use of the power of the community to make each BETA better.

Firstly, thank you for the care that you put into nurturing and tending this community!

 

Looking at the badges - it seems that it may be useful to discriminate between posts made in the Ideas sections; vs. posts made in the discussion or the Weekly Challenge section.

My thinking here is that some folk will be able to make a huge contribution in new product or community ideas - while others may be assisting the community with solutions; suggestions; replies etc.   Both are valuable and both are very different ways to contribute.

 

:-) additionally - like you've done with the weekly challenges - we could make this fun (e.g. use light-bulb or invention-themed badge icons for folks who are prolific idea generators).

I think it would cool if we would make some enchantments in the area of creating new topics. I hope this topic will be a good conversation starter about how this should exactly look like.

In my opinion, the current format for creating new topics could be enhanced. The current recommendations don't have sufficient information to identify if this recommendation is relevant for me.

Suppose the recommendation would show like four first rows of text. Thanks to this small change, we could make it more useful. Sometimes, people don't search for the answer before posting a new topic, and it would be great if they could found a solution without creating a new post.

This is similar to some other requests I've posted in the past relating to badges.

When I look at my profile ( https://community.alteryx.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/4671) I see a series of badges sorted by earned date - so the most recently earned badges are at the top.  This is a helpful listing, but as new badges are earned, some really cool ones float off the page.  For example, my Core Certification badge moved off recently, and the Advanced Certified is on its way off the page!

 

I'm wondering if a second row could be added of "favorites", with an option for users to "favorite" some badges that they really like.  These may be things like the certifications which speak to a user's qualifications/experience, or something like the "Stars Champion" badge, which only one user has.  I think allowing a curated list like this could add a lot of value to user profiles, and add a sense of customization/personalization, increasing engagement.

So - there's a well known principle in psychology that people behave differently when they are asked "do you like A" "do you like B" - vs. when you say "if you can only have one - which will you pick".   

 

This is an important principle for Agile Product Owners because asking your users "do you support this feature" will essentially provide a popularity score - but tells you nothing about which are the most important features to your user base. Where saying to users "Pick your top 5 from this list, in order" - will give you a VERY different result because now people need to think "Sure I'd like this feature, but if I had to pick, it's not on my top 5".     TLDR: the best way to gauge importance (vs popularity) is asking users to force-rank with constraints.

 

So the idea is to provide Alteryx users on the Maveryx community the ability to select their top 5 features / ideas that they would like to see.    This can be done programmatically in a very easy way by looking at the ideas that get more than X votes, and then adding them to the list.     

 

The real benefit of this is that the Product Managers at Alteryx get a very clear sense of the most useful / important features - and perhaps more importantly the Maveryx will say "I made that happen" which creates a real sense of ownership & stickiness in the product among the userbase.

If people who are registered for AFG could volunteer by solving problems as a part of Weekly Challenges it'd really bridge the gap between volunteering for Non-profits. The help needed by NGO's with Alteryx could be broken down in problem statements and can be worked on.

In the ideas board, there are many ideas which have been marked as Inactive, indicating that they didn't receive enough support, or that they have been unchanged for over a year.

example: SELECT TOOL: Right Click to Select Fields - Alteryx Community

 

the challenge with this is that ideas may still be useful, but they have been marked as inactive because lack of change (which may well be because the product team is focussed elsewhere for now)

 

Now - for ideas stuck in this state - the community has started reposting them, as a way to resurrect the idea when it's useful / important.

 

In order to reduce noise - could we instead have a way of resurrecting inactive ideas like the one above so that the Product team can include them in their thinking, and the community can vote on them?    It would reduce wasted time on the product community; reduce noise; and also make the community feel that their ideas are valued.

Very often first time questioners post questions in formats which make it hard to answer. For instance. posting a question with no context about the data they are using or using an screenshot which the community will then have to manually type up themselves to answer the question. In this case if users could be pre prompted to add a copy and paste table beforehand it will allow the community to more quickly answer and understand new users questions.

I think it would be great to have Grand Prix style event once a quarter for the weekly challenges. This can be broken down by expertise level. I see this increasing the engagement on the community and further spread the word on weekly challenges. Also, not everyone  makes it on stage for Grand Prix, this event could be their opportunity to experience Grand Prix

The weekly challenges provide such a rich resource for strengthening your Alteryx abilities but for new uses a lot of time is spent merely collecting the older challenges to work on them.  I would suggest creating a page with all of the start files, and a page with all of the solution files so that all of the challenges can be downloaded from a single location.  This would also provide an opportunity for a new weekly challenge to build a workflow that downloads challenges within a specified range, create windows folders for each week, and cleanse the pesky underscores from the front and end of many of the files.

Now that the Gallery has moved into the community - it seems that we have an opportunity to start thinking about how a great community-built macro could become part of the main Alteryx product.

 

There are dozens of really valuable and useful tools that have been built by the community which would be a valuable additional to the product - like file move tools; directory create tools; plain old SQL tools.    While it's great that these are available in the community / gallery; for large institutions it becomes prohibitive to distribute these because every one needs to be wrapped into a separate installer in order to distribute them to our users.

 

If these great tools can be included in the main product, then they will be part of the main Alteryx installer, and we can then harness the power of Alteryx to accelerate our users with additional capabilities.
