3… 2… 1… Liftoff! Have you ever had a project that was a long time coming that you finally got off the ground, nothing blew up in your face, and you got to breathe a sigh of relief? That's how the community team felt when SSO launched at the end of April. Projects like this are no small thing to execute, with teams from all over working together to make it happen. Let's give a huge shout out to the everyone involved in the undertaking, and then read on to see what you might have missed in the community throughout the month of April!

Need to Know

We spend a lot of time on all our cool updates, however sometimes we forget to highlight the little things. While our new SSO feature was the big update for this release, we have many other exciting, albeit smaller, things to showcase.

First, we’ve updated our iconography! We’re moving from Font Awesome 4 to Font Awesome 5, meaning we have access to a wider variety to new imagery for the community in areas like the community tile cards and notifications. We’re looking forward to utilizing them throughout the year in new, fun, and interesting ways, so stay tuned for those events.

You might have noticed this one earlier during the SSO launch, but we did include a quality-of-life updates with our announcement banner. We now have two, our blue promotional updates banner and our red community status updates banner. We’ll be using the red one going forward to announce any downtime or issues in functionality throughout the community to help keep users up to date.

However, as we release updates sometimes things can also periodically break. Many of you have brought this issue to our attention (thank you!) and we wanted to mention it here as well. Currently on most boards the Top Solution Authors statistics are...off, wildly off in fact. We’re currently working with one of our vendors to correct this and will give an update once we have the issue fixed.

As we look towards the end of the second quarter though, we have many exciting updates on the horizon that we can’t wait to show you!

Community News

Global Virtual Inspire is fast approaching, and we've had some fantastic content over in the Inspire Buzz area of the community leading up to the event. In early April, @kat and @NicoleJohnson held an open call for all community members to ask their burning questions about participating in the Grand Prix.  It was a smashing success, and there were over 50 replies!  Check it out here to get all of the details.  And though it's too late to do the Grand Prix this time around, this could help you build up the courage to get ready for it the next go round!

We also had some of our ACEs (here's looking at you @marqueecrew, @NicoleJohnson, and @EstherB47) that put themselves in no small amount of discomfort to educate and entertain the community! They took some time record a pre-Inspire session called Hot ACEs - Hot Tips from Hot ACEs on Hot Sauce. If you haven't had a chance to view the recording, I highly recommend taking 30 minutes out of your day to do so! These ACEs covered everything from becoming an ACE, to their favorite memories from Inspire, to sharing some of the pain they were going through with all of us.  It's a great watch, and a great opportunity to learn about (or remember) Inspire!

We also can't forget to mention the international communities in our monthly roundup of community news. Last month we mentioned that the French Community has a new Data Podcast out, and they've released their second episode in April as well! Check out the episode, The Data Podcast #2 : Automatisation du reporting FP&A, and sound off in the comments to share your thoughts. Our Portuguese community also had a really great series of videos that were released recently.  Alteryx Server + Cloud AWS Marathon is a collection of 8 videos that present practical cases on using Server in the AWS Cloud Environment.  There's a lot of awesome information here, so definitely check it out!

Is there anything else that you think people should see from last month?  Let us know in the comments below; but for now let's move on to our Blogs and Podcasts!

Read and Listen

April’s blog posts aimed to help you reach escape velocity with awesome new strategies and tools. We shared a terrific explanation of building Python macros that will take your workflows to extragalactic levels. We also published a way to identify social media influencers using the Network Analysis Tool in Designer, broadening your orbit of data-crunching options. In an exclusive interview, we talked with data science celebrity P. Value and revealed the dark side of this popular statistic. Finally, to expand the universe of Alteryx users at your organization, read all about preparing for a successful liftoff when implementing Alteryx.

If you’re anything like us, the first thing you do before you launch a new workflow (or blast off to happy hour), is find the perfect playlist to get you there. On the Alter Everything podcast, we heard relatable stories about how being the nerdy kids in school helped @Kenda and @Erin_Wagner become actuarial analysts, and were reminded by @DawnDuong and @jchua3 why it’s important to keep your workflows neat and tidy! On the Data Science Mixer podcast, best-selling author John K. Thompson encouraged data scientists to be creative in their solutions, and data & evaluation scientist Danielle Lyles of CU Boulder gave us a peak behind the curtain of how data science powers the university student experience. All around, our podcast this month were full of illuminating insights, perfect for your playlist!

Final Thoughts

All good things must come to an end at some point, and this edition of the Highlights & Release blog is no different. As always, thank you for taking the time to see what you may have missed.  There's a lot to love in the wide community we share, and it can be easy to overlook excellent contributions from all of our peers with everything that's always happening.  So hopefully you get a chance to catch up, relax, and maybe look up at the stars to take all of it in, even if only for a little bit.  Until next time, community!
