Community news, customer stories, and more!

We are advancing to a new version of the Advanced Exam!

We did it again! Much like the Core Certification exam that underwent a refresh earlier this year, the Alteryx Designer Advanced Certification exam also got a makeover! The new and improved Advanced Certification exam will be going LIVE to our Community in the coming months.

What Changed

You spoke, and we listened. Spatial tools and Reporting tools will take a back seat in the updated Advanced Certification exam. The current Advanced Certification exam assesses an Alteryx Designer User’s advanced skills with an emphasis on Spatial tools, which for many is a category of tools used the least in their day-to-day work. Our team of subject matter experts pulled the data and decided to refocus the aim of the Advanced Certification exam to assess the Designer tools used most often by seasoned and experienced users.

The Advanced Certification exam currently has 40 questions in total with 4 practical application questions worth 10 points each. It will soon have 51 questions in total with 3 practical application questions worth 4 points each. The exam continues to be free, on-demand, and open-book.

The new exam blueprint can be found at the end of this blog as well as in the new Alteryx Designer Advanced Certification Exam Prep Guide once it is released.

Certifications expire two (2) years after the date the certification is earned. The earned date is based on the most recent, highest-level exam passed. For example, if you became Core Certified in November 2022 and passed the Advanced exam on March 29, 2023, both of your certifications will expire on March 29, 2025.

To maintain your certification, you must recertify before the expiration date. Alteryx provides two ways for you to recertify:

  • Pass the current exam for your certification status. For example, passing the current version of the Advanced exam if you are currently Advanced Certified.
  • Pass a higher-level exam. For example, if you are currently Core Certified, you could recertify by passing the Advanced exam. Note: The micro-credentials are not tied to other exams and cannot be recertified in this same manner.

If you have already earned your Designer Advanced Certification, you only need to retake the updated exam once your Certification is near expiration, and you are due for recertification. You are also eligible to retake your Advanced exam without penalty after your 1-year anniversary of earning it. If you pass, your Certification will adopt the new expiration date. If you fail, nothing will change, including the expiration date, until the certificate expires.

Hi @bethnichols21 ,

Thank you for sharing this changes. Do you perhaps know what would be the new passing rate? Does it remain unchanged at 80%?

Hi @owenkosnen! We try not to advertise the pass rate; however, I can confirm that it is no longer 80%.
