Even better, it's REALLY easy to participate. All you have to do is answer two simple questions and include either a video or photo(s) in your submission. Visit for further instructions. Contest deadline is March 14th.

Weekly Challengethink like a cse-2.png

We are thrilled to bring you the first of our “Think Like a CSE” series in Weekly Challenge, brought to you by our fearless team of Customer Support Engineers. Each month, the Customer Support team will ask Community members to “think like a CSE” to try to resolve a case that was inspired by real-life issues encountered by Alteryx users like you! You'll receive the same information that the CSEs did, including symptoms of the issue, assets, screenshots, and pleas for HAAALLLLLPPP! Look for “Think Like a CSE” themed Challenges on the last Monday of each month.

Our first “Think Like a CSE” challenge asks you to solve the issue of the missing tool. Thanks to @MikeSp for the case!

A co-worker builds a workflow and shares the YXMD (workflow file) and a YXMC (macro file) with a colleague. However, when the colleague attempts to open the workflow, they receive a message stating:

Can you resolve the case?

Are there other Alteryx skills you’d like to put into practice? No problem. We’ve got you covered. You can browse all of the available challenges by difficulty and subject, right here.

Upcoming Live Training

March 13th | Reporting for Intermediate Users

Looking to create more complex reports? Learn to create and display report snippets to share insightful results from your analyses. You'll learn how to create individual report snippets and organize multiple snippets into a single report.

March 20th | Data Blending for Beginners

Ever have to combine data from very different data sources (text, Oracle, spreadsheet)? Tired of cutting, pasting and doing lookups? This session shows how data from disparate data sources can be easily and automatically combined into a use dataset using the Join Tools.

March 27th | Introduction to Building Macros

You have created some great workflows that others need to run. Learn how to turn your workflow into an analytic app by constructing a graphical user interface (GUI) so users can easily set the required parameters.

If you missed a live session or would like to revisit a prior one, all recordings are available on the Alteryx Academy Live Training page.

Earlier this year @NeilR floated the idea for a hackathon on the Inspire Buzz. We got a lot of great feedback, and can't wait for you to join the fun this summer in Anaheim!

Introducing Alteryx BUILD

Alteryx BUILD is our inaugural day-long hackathon. Spend your first day of Inspire (Monday June 4th) working by yourself or with a team on a project that leverages the Alteryx platform. You'll have the opportunity to treat the day as a learning experience by collaborating with Alteryx developers and experts to bring your project vision to life. You will also get the chance to compete for prizes by submitting your project to judges at the end of the day on Monday. You choose your project — for example:

  • Create a data science tool by building an R-based macro
  • Build a connector to a web API with the Download tool or use one of our SDKs, like Python and HTML
  • Embed Alteryx analytics into an app by leveraging the Server API
  • Dedicate the day to support one of our Alteryx for Good projects

The best part? It's FREE.

To sign-up all you have to do is let us know when you Register for Inspire.

 Nuts & Bolts

*Alteryx in Practice. Noteworthy Articles, Blog Posts + other pearls of wisdom.

This past month, we had a handful of Tools added to the Tool Mastery Series, along with the crowning of another Tool Master, @JoshKushner

Josh believes "the Spatial Info Tool is essentially the Babel fish of all spatial tools."  Check out his article below to find out why.

Check out the Tool Mastery Index for a list of all available series articles.

If you're looking to improve your use and understanding of the Decision Tree Tool, @SydneyF and @MichaelF created a wonderfully detailed introduction to Decision Trees!

Innovation Days, for those who aren't familiar, is a quarterly event where Alteryx gives its associates an opportunity to work on side projects. A lot of people think of it as

"a chance to work on something you're passionate about and that your boss didn't assign to you."

@NeilR was kind enough to provide a fantastic overview in his blog: A brief history of Innovation Days.

Check out @AlanS's three part blog series about a recent project.

The Funnies
