By the Tool Masters, and for the Tool Masters, this series serves one function: collectively elevating every user’s proficiency in the Designer by detailing working examples of every tool’s best uses. Not to expert, definitely not just to pro; it's mastery level or bust. We know the breadth of the Designer, and we’re calling all our users to pull every niche proficiency they have out of the woodwork and lend that expertise to the rest of us.

Expertise like:

Using the Tile Tool for “Group By” record ids, easier cross-tabbing, or binning/splitting of data
Dynamically performing calculations on varying numbers of fields or extracting data with Cross-Tab
Using Run Command for just about anything

Only a brave, creative, few can use each tool to the fullest. To recognize their mastery, we’re proud to also announce a new series of Community badges to pair:

The Tool Mastery badges are awarded to every analyst that has proved their skill in a tool category by detailing a tool’s use cases within that category. Three or more of these category badges will earn them the rank of Tool Master, a lifetime of bragging rights, and a reason to call mom.

How?
To volunteer your most inspired uses, just shoot us an email at community@alteryx.com and we’ll set you up with a template and tool icon for your favorite tool. Then you simply channel the Alteryx master within and send a draft article back to us with your favorite use cases described.

Why?
Posting diverse applications of each tool is part of an effort to more closely integrate Designer and Community themes. Without ruining too much of the surprise, a near future release will make it far easier for every user to self-educate, build working examples of even the most advanced Designer uses, and answer all types of Designer questions. That’s right – we think Designer use can be even easier. And the challenge has been accepted. If you can’t wait to find out how, or you just hate surprises, try searching for the meaning behind it all in our Alteryx 11.0 Beta.

We’ll also be diving into the “behind the scenes” of creating the Tool Mastery series by exploring community management through API connections, featuring the Lithium API, on our Engine Works Blog. If you are a community organization, or just want to see the magic, be sure to check back in to learn more!

In the meantime, stay posted with our latest and greatest mastery articles by subscribing for email notifications or by following Alteryx on Twitter for our #ToolTuesday posts each week.

Happy blending!
