Community Team Updates

Neil Ryan joins the Community Team!Neil Ryan joins the Community Team!@TaraM recently celebrated her 13-year anniversary with Alteryx! For the last three of those, she’s served as Sr. Program Manager, Community Content to deliver amazing experiences to our community both online and in-person.  As many of you know, she is the driving force behind much of what you see around you every day. From the tool icons in the Designer, to the cool shirts we get to wear at Inspire, to the murals on the walls in the Broomfield office, to all of the unique community swag items that adorn your desks.

Earlier this month, Tara officially joined the Marketing organization in the newly-created role of Creative Director! Stay tuned for even more mind-blowing visual awesomeness from our creative genius.

So, what do you do when someone as awesome as Tara exits your department? You fill the role with someone equally as awesome.  Enter Neil Ryan.

@NeilR is kind of a big deal. In the three years that he’s been with Alteryx, he's played key roles in the Content Engineering and Product Management teams, creating interactive tutorial-style starter kits, leading a data challenge in academia, led the charge to deliver new tools and SDKs, delivered epic Tech Track talks at Inspire, and is a 2-time Innovation Days Champion.

His passion is building content and resources for advanced Alteryx users, and that’s exactly what the community needs next. We’re thrilled that Neil has joined us! His expertise and fresh perspective will help us deliver the next wave of engaging and insightful content.

Weekly Challenge

Our Community reached a major milestone in early January: the 100th Weekly Challenge was posted to Alteryx Academy! When we were planning our 100th Challenge, we knew it had to be three things: challenging, badge-worthy and, most importantly, fun!

So, what was our approach to creating this Challenge? Asking @Ned for help, of course!

Challenge #100 asks challengers to find Ned's campsite, which is set up in the farthest location from any road in the state of Colorado.

WHEREisNED.png

Where is that exactly?  Well, that's what you need to find out!

Head on over to Challenge 100 to check it out! And, while you're at it, give a shout out to our Community members who have successfully completed 100 Challenges: @NicoleJohnson@ggruccio@patrick_digan@estherb47@LordNeilLord, and @PhilipMannering!

Are there other Alteryx skills you’d like to put into practice? No problem. We’ve got you covered. You can browse all of the available challenges by difficulty and subject, right here.

Born To Solve-edited.pngWhen @aMac asked the community for some help optimizing a Regex string -- It's no surprise that @MarqueeCrew  jumped in with a solution worthy response:

Solved: Using 'IN' within a Contains function?

In addition to solving the immediate need, Mark not only took the time to share a macro he thought others would find useful, he even created a series of tutorials on YouTube that dive into the details:

Comparing Datasets

Comparing two datasets is a common challenge that comes in many forms -- either in understanding what fields are different across data sets; checking how field types are different (diagnosing issues with truncation or text field issues) or even in reconciling two data sets.  There's no single tool to do this directly in Alteryx, but with some ingenuity you can do this yourself - Check out @SeanAdams blog to find out how: Compare 2 Datasets
