Alteryx Server Gallery UI Not Starting

I’m running into a critical issue with our Alteryx Server after updating the service account password. As part of our standard 90‑day rotation, I updated the password both in Alteryx System Settings and in the AlteryxService properties in Windows Services. After doing so, the Alteryx Server service stopped starting completely. I spent several days troubleshooting with Alteryx Support, and the issue appears to be SSL‑related. Their recommendation was to generate a new SSL certificate, bind it to port 443, and retry the service startup, but that did not resolve the problem. At this point the service still fails to start, and Support has not identified any further root causes. Has anyone encountered similar behavior after a service account password rotation or SSL certificate rebinding?

The specific error message I am getting from logs is "Error: Gallery Service failed to start in a timely fashion in Alteryx Server"

Are you able to start the service if you remove the user from the AlteryxService properties?

In my environment with a standalone Alteryx server and SSL cert setup, my Windows service is running with 'local system'. Not sure if that matters based on previous comment.

AlteryxService starts if I go through the Alteryx System Settings and only enable Controller and Worker. The Gallery UI will not load if SSL is enabled. In the KB article from the original post, in the "Diagnosis" part, I was able to get through steps 1-3 and it failed at step 4. Doing this changes the AlteryxService properties to be logged on as "Local System account".

From what you have shared, even though the issue happened when you changed the password, it has nothing to do with that. It was probably triggered by checks that may occur during the service startup. The server starting with SSL disabled proves exactly that.

Could you please share your most recent Alteryx service logs file? The default path is: C:\ProgramData\Alteryx\Service

Before doing so, please do the following:

With your Alteryx Service turned off, rename the file AlteryxServiceLog.log and restart the service, which will create a new AlteryxServiceLog.log with only the data from the service restart.

The problem has been determined to be the SMPT config in the RuntimeSettings.xml file generated by going through the Alteryx System Settings. When any SMTP config information for Server UI > SMPT is listed in the RuntimeSettings.xml file, even if SMTP is disabled, the Server does not start up. I was able to fix this by generating a new RuntimeSettings.xml file without any information in the Server UI > SMTP part of Alteryx System Settings. I am not sure why this is the case or if this is a known bug with Server 2025.2.
