So if I understand correctly, 2024.2 will go EOL on 10/30/2026. Customers can upgrade to 2025 now but must be aware of the AI and Co-Pilot feature being enabled by default. I have the same question if Alteryx One is SaaS model only, or just another name after 2025?

Alteryx Server Upgrade

Hi Alteryx Community,

I’m reaching out for support and clarification as we begin evaluating and planning a potential migration from our on-premises Alteryx Server environment to Alteryx One.

We are currently running Alteryx Server 2021.3 and have recently been granted access to Alteryx One. Before we proceed with any migration activities, we want to ensure we fully understand the technical, security, and operational implications of moving from an on-prem setup to a cloud-hosted platform. We would like to know whether it is necessary to move to Cloud environment or we can stay on-prem by simply doing the Server upgrade to the latest Alteryx version. Also, how the workflows and app on the Server gallery will be managed by Alteryx One. (Basically, need to understand the difference between Alteryx Server Gallery and Alteryx One)

I would greatly appreciate any guidance, documentation, or real-world experience related to the following areas:

1. Migration Path & Next Steps
Recommended steps after gaining access to Alteryx One.

Official migration guides or checklists for transitioning from on-prem Server to Alteryx One.

Considerations for migrating workflows, schedules, user roles, Gallery assets, and dependencies.

2. Pre-Requisites & Server Requirements
Whether an upgrade from 2021.3 is required before migration.

Minimum supported versions for a smooth transition.

Any configuration changes needed on the existing server prior to migration.

3. Data Security & Workflow Logic Protection
This is a major concern for us, as we handle confidential business logic and sensitive data.

We are specifically looking for clarity on:

How data security, encryption, and access control are handled in Alteryx One.

Where workflow logic, macros, and packaged assets are stored within the Alteryx One cloud architecture.

Whether Alteryx One provides encryption at rest/in transit, and admin-level visibility into stored assets.

How Alteryx ensures that proprietary business logic remains protected in a cloud environment.

Our organization traditionally prefers on-premises deployments due to strict internal security policies, so understanding the cloud security model is essential before we can move forward.

4. Cost & Licensing Considerations
Any additional costs associated with migrating to or operating within Alteryx One.

Pricing implications for compute, storage, scaling, or user licensing.

5. Time Estimates
Typical timelines for planning, migration, testing, and cutover.

How organizations usually allocate for validation and UAT.

6. Rollback / Contingency Planning
Recommended rollback strategies if issues arise during or after migration.

How to revert workflows or assets if unexpected issues occur in the cloud environment.

If anyone has documentation, best practices, or lessons learned from similar migrations, your insights would be extremely valuable. We want to ensure our planning is thorough, especially given our security requirements and preference for on-prem infrastructure.

Thanks in advance for your help and expertise.

Hi @ansars,

Just so that you're aware, end of support for 2021.3 ended in 2023.

https://help.alteryx.com/release-notes/en/version-support-policy/version-support-policy-archive.html#id211863

As such, It is a great idea to get yourself upgraded to a compatible version. I believe Alteryx One works best if you're on 24.2+, so you may have a couple upgrade cycles to navigate through.

You may have to rely on some of the archives (and maybe Alteryx Support) for documentation. This is a great resource for you however:
https://help.alteryx.com/current/en/server/install/install-or-upgrade-server/version-to-version-server-upgrade-guide-unsupported-versions.html#2021-3
Which will identify the 'pit-stops' for you - which are the versions you must upgrade to before upgrading further.

This is a great resource for the best practices when it comes to upgrading:
https://help.alteryx.com/current/en/server/best-practices/server-upgrade-best-practices.html#id671214
I believe this covers the majority of your queries about the Alteryx Server upgrade process itself.
