Run Command Tool

Is there a way to bypass the input/output fields in the Run Command Tool? Currently I'm executing scripts via Events, but I want to run them through the tool, but can't leave the input/output fields blank even though they say optional. I've tried feeding in blank files, but that throws an error.

It can be a little misleading when it says optional. It actually means one or the other - write or read.
