Stupid question regarding Joins

Question

I have two data sets - one with a single field - and another with multiple versions of the same field.

So if a field has 3 records - I want three resulting records.  I know it is a combination of join and union - but i am just not sure.

it is difficult to say anything without looking at the real data.

Perhaps you can provide some sample data?

I'm not sure I can visualize this. So dataset 1 has a field called "fieldid" or something like that. and dataset2 has like three fields called "fieldid", "field_Id" and "field_ID1" or something like that where all three columns have the same id. And when you join you want a combined dataset that has three rows to signify the three different potential link columns? Something like that? Can you potentially share two anonymized example datasets so we can see the data that would help us to build it. Right now, based on my understanding, I'd look at transposing the second dataset to turn the potential join fields into rows, then join to the first dataset.
