Best Practice for Handling SAP Data in Alteryx Designer (Excel vs Direct Connection)

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working with SAP data where I usually download reports into Excel first, then use Alteryx Designer for transformation tasks like joining, cleaning, and restructuring the data.

I would like to know if there is a better way to directly connect Alteryx to SAP instead of relying on Excel downloads.

Specifically, I have a few questions:

• Is there a recommended method or connector to access SAP data directly in Alteryx Designer?
• What are the best practices in terms of security when connecting SAP to Alteryx?
• Does direct SAP integration have any impact on SAP system performance?

Any guidance, workflow examples, or best practices would be greatly appreciated.

You can connect SAP directly to Alteryx however which it will vary based of SAP version.
Alteryx will not alter the data source if you only reading the data from that source.

You have to bear in mind that the minute that you will connect SAP directly to Alteryx every time that there will be an update to SAP or Alteryx you will need to test your automation to ensure that nothing change.
