Output sheet automatic rename

Hello Alteryx Community,

I’m currently working on a workflow where I need to dynamically rename an output sheet based on a column name.

Does anyone have recommendations or best practices on how to achieve this? Any guidance or examples would be greatly appreciated!

No, This will change the sheet name for .xlsx files - have you tried it in your solution?

You have the "Take File / Table Name from Field" option in the Output Data tool! You would select "Change File/Table Name" and your column: https://help.alteryx.com/current/en/designer/tools/in-out-tools/output-data-tool.html#id567166

Hi Alex, your suggestion is for the actual file name when it outputs correct? I am referring to the sheet being renamed to whatever I assign to from a column.

You can rename it to any name that you wish, can be a variable too. You define the sheet name after 3 pipes in the path. So if your file end is file.xlsx|||tabname

I gave it a try and it’s working now—thank you!

I’m running into another issue with the workflow output. Right now, it’s generating a single file with five different tabs instead of creating five separate output files. My original goal was to have the workflow create separate outputs based on the Output File Name, while also renaming each tab according to the File Name

I’ve attached the workflow for reference, any suggestions on how to achieve this setup would be greatly appreciated.

Then you can use a Formula tool to put together the path you want (in the structure that @OTrieger defined), and use the Output Data tool to write to that path. The change would be "Change Entire File Path" in your Output Data tool and referencing the column you create in the Formula.

If you would like to get the list of all your fields, columns, then use Field Info tool. It will give you the list of fields, then you can use them to rename your sheet.
