Spilt Multiple Fields in the same column into

Question

I need to try and split 3 different fields from the same column, at the moment they are under one general category, but i need them into seperate sections. Anybody know a way I can only select one type of text data. So I need to get Global ECM seperated from the Global M&A.

My suggestion would be to use a combination of formula, filter, and RegEx. Of course, this depends on your desired output, though. You could start by creating a new field in the formula tool using a formula kind of like this:

IF Contains([YOURCOLUMNNAME], "ECM") THEN "ECM"
ELSEIF Contains([YOURCOLUMNNAME], "M&A") THEN "M&A"
ELSE "Other"
ENDIF

And then you could filter the new category field. And if needed, use a RegEx tool with patterns like (ECM|M&A)

@Haydn_Cook are you trying to Parse or Pivot the column?  As others have offered there are ways to do either, but more detail would be useful.

Here's a basic workflow that shows splitting the first field into pieces (making assumptions about what you want) OR the second path is pivoting the values out using Crosstab Tool.

To separate "Global ECM" from "Global M&A" in the same column, you can try a couple of methods. First, use the "Text to Columns" feature in Excel by selecting the column, going to the "Data" tab, and clicking "Text to Columns." Choose "Delimited" if there's a separator, and specify the delimiter. Alternatively, use formulas like =IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("ECM", A1)), "Global ECM", "") to separate based on specific text.
