Workflow breaks when saving - Code just ends in the middle

Question

Hi,

from time to time my workflows don't get saved properly. I don't get an error when saving, but when i reopen the file it gives an error that certain functions are not closed.

If I open the corrupted file with notepad++ I can see that the xml code just ends somewhere in the middle.

I haven't found out when it happens, so I can't reproduce the error.

Does anyone now this issue or what actually happend there so I can be aware of it when saving my work?

Try to re-installed your Alteryx or update the patch. I faced this before and it's fixed after I update it

One reason can be that Alteryx Designer is not properly installed on your machine. If this is the case you will need to uninstall the program and then install it again.

What I usually do, when I arrived to a desired WF I will save one more version of it, so I will have 2 files of the same WF. By saving as it will save all the new changes that you did so far, even if from some reason save is failing. This saved me many times as I always had a second file that I could refer to.

I have had that happen maybe once or twice in 11 years, and not for the last 5-6... No idea what may cause it. If you have the XML, it may pay to look at where it ends, and what tool that is on.

If you are opening it up again within 30 days, then try the autosave from File > Open Workflow > Open Autorecovered files. You could get lucky with the last version before you saved in there somewhere. Those are stored in "C:\Users\<your user>\AppData\Local\Alteryx\Autosave" for a non-admin install.
