Alteryx Server Upgrade steps

Hello,

We are trying to update our server to the latest version of software.

Based on the documentation we have our understanding is that we would need to approach this upgrade in three steps – can anyone verify this please?

• We are currently on 2022.1
• First step would be to acquire Patch9 - 22.1.1.9.42691_Patch_9 
• Upgrade to 2023.2
• Upgrade to 2024.2

We are assuming that we should be able to skip all other upgrades in between, please can anyone advise if that is not the case.

I don`t think you need to upgrade to the latest patch and I`d also recommend keeping your production server one version before the most recent one, 24.1.

If you haven`t, please read these documents. It is imperative to perform the pre-upgrade checks and the migration prep tool and have a testing phase on each version to guarantee everything is working.

The Alteryx upgrade is not easy, but it gets easier with experience.

I recommend spending time on everything you must do in case of a rollback. Saving all files and having a backup of your MongoDB is essential for the rollback to work.

There are plenty of replies (mine) with all the steps needed during an upgrade but I will also provide a summary here to help out:

1. Backup MongoDB and important files (runtimesettings, connections)
2. Run Preupgrade Check and fix errors - keep running the preupgrade check until you see no errors in the report
3. Backup MongoDB again if errors were fixed
4. You have the option to run the Migration Prep tool before (per link/tutorial shared above). Usually this is done when the MongoDB is big (I don`t have a number) and you are concerned about the server downtime, because it takes a while to complete - if you skip this step, the installer will do it automatically (recommended if you are not comfortable with performing the process yourself)
5. Upgrade to 23.2
6. Test everything
   1. Publishing workflows
   2. Running workflows
   3. Access to pages
   4. Workflows with non-native connectors or non-native python and R packages
   5. Important workflows
7. Restart the process from 1 to go to 24.1/24.2
