Data connections not working after upgrade to 2023.2

Question

We have recently upgraded server to 2023.2 from 2021.4. After the upgrade, workflows which use gallery data connections are not working.

Error shown on Designer canvas is 'Unable to translate alias <connection name>'.

It works when we reselect the gallery connection from input tool.

Any input is really appreciated. TIA.

@lagisettya , this is a brand-new error for me. It wasn`t supposed to happen after the migration.

If you have a service account or a run as credential configured on your server, log in remotely using that user and open Alteryx Designer once. This will load the connections for that user.

If that doesn`t solve your issue, contact alteryx support to see if this was a problem with the migration prep tool.

Thank you for replying.

We migrated all workflows using migration tool. We have too many workflows that use gallery connections and developers may not prefer doing the re-select and re-publish for every workflow. Is there any way to resolve this without republishing?

I'm also checking with support on this.

Hi @lagisettya ,

With the encryption changes, one additional process was executed to update the encryption of every workflow on the Gallery; something might get corrupted when this was performed. Usually, you are unable to start the services after, but maybe you got 'lucky'.

But I would say you will have to do this process of opening the workflow on Designer and publishing back to the Gallery with all the workflows with Gallery Data Connections.

For you to understand what is going on.

Every time you publish a workflow with a Gallery data connection, Alteryx sends a connection file containing the connection string (Encrypted) together with the workflow. If this file is not sent together (because you don`t have access to it or for any other weird reason), you will get this 'Unable to translate alias' error. That is why, re-publishing the workflow is fixing the issue.
