Date input tool

Question

I must be missing something here.  I am trying to use the Date input tool to have users click on a date that will then be utilized in the workflow.  However, I cannot figure out how to get the date clicked on to show in the workflow in the Inpu_Date field.  I don't see what I need to do to make this happen. Please help (I'm sure this will be something quite small and what should've been obvious.)

I gave up to have it update a cell in Excel. I simply changed it to a Input Text tool and voilà, it works.  Grazie to all!
